Tour of the wastewater treatment plant

Eastern Passage Wastewater Treatment Facility

Wednesday, October 7th at 2:15 - 5:00 PM

IUVA has arranged a private tour of Halifax Water's Eastern Passage Wastewater Treatment Facility. In partnership with researchers from Dalhousie University and other public and private organizations, Halifax Water piloted the world's a largel-scale 280 nm UV LED reactor for wastewater disinfection in 2024 at its Eastern Passage facility. The pilot was the first instance where the efficacy of UV LED reactors, engineered by AquiSense, was demonstrated using a large-scale installation at a functioning wastewater facility.

Today, the Eastern Passage Wastewater Treatment Facility employs a variety of tools, including conventional UV, to manage its plant flow. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour this modern wastewater treatment plant and see current technology as well as the UV LED reactors used in the pilot program. Please wear closed-toed shoes.

Address: 1039 Main Rd, Shearwater, NS B3G 1M6, Canada

Getting There:

A private charter bus will pick up tour attendees at the Dalhousie Student Union building and shuttle them to and from the Halifax Water Eastern Passage Wastewater Treatment Facility. The bus will leave DSU at 2:15 PM.
