Phyllis Butler Posy, an IUVA Board member since 2006, heads strategic services and regulatory affairs at Atlantium Technologies, an innovative UV company that applies fiber optic principles to water disinfection. In that role, she has been working to expand opportunities for UV disinfection. With a coalition of scientists, she launched a program that proved that UV can be measured in real time and validated full scale for 4 log adenovirus credit. She has campaigned for UV’s acceptance as an alternative to chemical disinfection in various applications, including groundwater in the US. As part of these efforts, she has testified before various legislative committees and delivered sessions for the FDA, various state governments, the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, International Water Bottling Association, the International Dairy Foods Association, the International Society of Beverage Technologists and the World Aquaculture Society. Active in various food safety forums including the International Association for Food Protection, she has worked to broaden acceptance of UV as a green technology with a significant contribution to make to municipal, food safety and industrial water treatment. She serves a member of the AWWA UV Standards Committee; and the IUVA Manufacturer’s Council, and the Board of the IUVA. In previous positions she obtained Chinese government approval for a new rice hybridization technology, designed parks for the City of Pittsburgh and user-centered systems for avionics, and produced public television.
