In the UK, as in the rest of the world, there has been a move towards increased implementation of UV for water treatment, mainly for general disinfection or Cryptosporidium inactivation. High dose systems have also been installed, sometimes with hydrogen peroxide, for destruction of organic micropollutants such as pesticides. In the UK, water companies have needed to ensure that design and operation for disinfection are consistent with the DWI UV Guidance published in February 2010. Interpretation and practical application of this guidance may have varied between companies.
